A New Painting For Our Reading Area

On Friday, we hung Amy Feger's painting "Panorama at Ebenezer Swamp" in the reading area just to the left of the library's entrance. It's a beautiful depiction of a beautiful locale. Come check it out!

Montevallo Authors? We've Got 'Em

If you're following our newest Browsing Books, you've probably noticed a couple of familiar names. The library now has copies of the latest works of two authors with ties to the Montevallo community.

We've got a copy of Gregory Reece's latest work, Weird Science and Bizarre Beliefs: Mysterious Creatures, Lost Worlds and Amazing Inventions. Dr. Reece's book promises to be "both a penetrating analysis of the hidden underbelly of science, pseudo-science and religion and an unforgettable journey into the innermost depths of the fantastic and the peculiar."

We also now have copies of two books written by our own Alan May. Alan's latest publication, Dead Letters, as well as his previous effort, Notes Toward an Apocryphal Text, will be on the shelves very soon. The author Inman Majors has described Alan's poems as "taut, intense, weird, and occasionally perverse. They are also unbearably kind, consistently funny."

There are several ways to keep up with our newest browsing books. You can subscribe to the RSS feed on the sidebar of this blog. The feed enables you to follow our collections with any portal you care to use. (I'm partial to iGoogle.) You can also find our browsing books in the ForUM portal. You'll see them there on the MyForUM tab. Finally, we have a New Browsing Books page on our web site. That page lists the last 50 books we've added to this popular collection.

Keep Up with What's New in Our Browsing Collection

We've launched a new feature on the blog and website to keep you in the know on our popular Browsing Collection. This collection is located on the main floor, just inside the front doors and on the other side of the reading area.

One of the purposes of the Browsing Collection is to support our annual book review competition, which the library sponsors annually. We take recommendations from all corners of the UM community and stock the browsing shelves with the latest fiction and non-fiction, including a number of regional and national bestsellers.

We're now putting our most recent acquisitions into an RSS feed that you can check out in our blog sidebar. You can use the feed to track our Browsing books in your favorite feed reader. You can also point your browser to our New Browsing Books page on the library's website. That page will show the 50 latest books we've added to the Browsing Collection.
