If you're on the UM campus be sure to check out this speech by Autherine Lucy Foster. Foster was on the UM campus in 2000 to talk about her experiences as the first African-American Woman to attend the University of Alabama. This encore presentation is provided by the Division of Mass Communication's MCC News. Due to bandwidth limitations this link will not work from off-campus locations.
Also, don't miss a one hour interview from the Birmingham Public Library with two stars of baseball's Negro League era. Birmingham Black Barons players Jesse Mitchell and James Sanders discuss playing baseball in Birmingham and the history of the team. Clayton Sherrod from the Alabama Negro League Association is the interviewer. You can download the full interview at the link above. The discussion appeared earlier this month on a Birmingham public access channel. Not only is this interview appropriate for Black History Month but it coincides perfectly with baseball season here in Montevallo, which officially began on the 3rd of February.
